COVID-19 Testing

Southdale Pediatrics offers COVID testing for both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients.

For patients with symptoms, we recommend evaluation in our office to help determine what is causing your child symptoms. If a COVID test is indicated, we perform COVID PCR testing. Tests collected Monday through Thursday are reported between 24 to 48 hours later. Tests collected Friday and Saturday can take up to 5 days to return. Results show up on your child’s patient portal account. You will only receive a call from our clinic if your child tests positive. We do not have the ability to notify families of positive COVID results when the clinic is closed, but they are viewable on the patient portal at any time.

We now offer lab-only COVID testing appointments if your child is asymptomatic. This is a great option if your child has been exposed to an individual who has tested positive, there is COVID in your household, or before or after travel. This is only an option if your child has no COVID symptoms as we still want children with symptoms to be evaluated by one of our physicians. Appointments for COVID testing only can be scheduled by speaking with one of our schedulers.

If your child has a high risk exposure to COVID, it is still the recommendation of MDH to quarantine for 14 days after exposure, even with a negative test result. We know that each school has its own policy, but we are following MDH guidance on this topic.
